Buying FAW truck parts, the most common mistake is a mismatch. The most reliable way to avoid it is to read the OE number on the lamp, bumper or other part. This guide explains what an OE number is, how to read it and how to use it.

1. What is an OE number

The OE number (Original Equipment Number) is a unique part number assigned by the vehicle manufacturer - essentially the part's "ID card". The same part carries the same OE number regardless of who makes it. So as long as you can provide the OE number on your original part, you can match the correct product precisely and avoid buying the wrong one.

OE numbers are usually printed in three places: the back of the lamp housing, the lens or label, and the packaging label. Examples: 3711020-D9000D, 5302311-A95.

2. Common FAW OE number patterns

FAW (Jiefang / Qingdao Jiefang / Hongta) commercial vehicle part numbers follow clear patterns - the prefix digits indicate the part type:

OE prefixPart typeExample
3711xxxHeadlight assembly3711020-Q1500, 3711015-Q1500
3732xxxFog light3732020-6K9, 3732015-6K9
2803xxxBumper & brackets2803016-OFN8, 2803030-1K9
5302xxxGrille / front panel5302311-A95, 5302020-A95
53025xxCorner (fender corner)5302511-A95, 5302512-A95
5103xxxFender / wing5103022-J30, 5103021-J30

3. How to tell left from right

Headlights, fog lights and corners are distinguished by mounting position, and the OE numbers follow a pattern:

PartLeft OE endingRight OE ending
Headlight37110153711020
Fog light37320153732020
Corner53025115302512

Quick rule: in most cases "…015" is left and "…020" is right. Product names also mark (L) or (R) explicitly - always order according to the actual mounting position.

4. 12V vs 24V

Commercial vehicles use either 12V or 24V electrical systems, and lamp assemblies must match. Check the voltage marked in the product name (e.g. "12V" / "24V"), or confirm from the vehicle battery / manual. Mixing them up causes poor brightness or, worse, burnt lamps.

5. Three tips for selecting parts by OE number

1. Photograph the OE number on your original part - the clearer the better - and send it to your supplier for matching.

2. Trust the OE number over appearance - parts from different model years can look similar but carry different OE numbers.

3. When unsure, provide vehicle model + year + photos and let a professional confirm compatibility.
